About Amy (Andronica) Zuccarello

Ok, so we're doing this!

Three years ago I decided to run for School Committee because I wanted to make a difference in my community.  At the time, Belmont was facing serious financial challenges, including the prospect of passing the largest override in the town's history in order to maintain level services in our schools.  When I joined the School Committee, the immediate concern was finding a way to preserve Kindergarten aides across our elementary schools in the face of a budget deficit.  At the time, the district was in the process of hiring a new superintendent and the School Committee' s relationships with other town boards was understandably strained.

Shortly after I was elected in 2023, I joined the Finance Subcommittee and was elected as its chair at the end of that year.  As a member of the FSC, I have worked to create an environment of transparency and mutual respect as we have navigated our continuing budget challenges.  I worked as the School Committee representative on the 2024 Override Committee and advocated for the 2024 override which was successful in avoiding additional cuts to our school budget over the last several years.  I continue to work with the others on the School Committee to make informed budget decisions that maximize the value of the resources we have.  I am committed to continuing to advocate for resources to support our schools while remaining mindful of maintaining a sustainable budget for both the schools and the town going forward.

I remain very motivated to  to provide our kids with the very best experience that our public schools can offer them.  I believe that my legal background and my experience in financial analysis and negotiation have been an asset to the School Committee and I look forward to serving Belmont for another term.

As many of you know, Belmont is my hometown.  I grew up on Marlboro Street in a three-family home owned by my grandparents. I attended Wellington Elementary School, Chenery Middle School, and Belmont High School. My parents made many sacrifices over the years to remain in Belmont to raise our family, largely because of the strength of our public schools. Belmont’s strong public school system was and remains an equalizer for students of all backgrounds to realize their potential and become the very best versions of themselves. I can say without reservation that this has been the case for me.

After high school, I attended Boston University and Boston College Law School. I pursued a career in law as a way to combine my interests in problem-solving and engaging with people. I have now been practicing for nearly twenty-five years, principally in the areas of bankruptcy and financial restructuring. Notwithstanding my work with distressed companies and transactions, I consider myself an optimist and I believe that anything is possible for those who are willing to plan effectively, work hard, and use their resources wisely.

I am married to Guy Zuccarello Jr., also a Belmont native, and we became Belmont homeowners in 2003. We believe, just as our parents did, that Belmont is the ideal place to raise a family. We became part of a wonderful community in the Burbank school district and now live on Elizabeth Road with our two children. Our son is a 2021 graduate of Belmont High School, a 2025 graduate of Oberlin Conservatory and a current Master's Student at the Eastman School of Music.  Our daughter is now a senior at Belmont High School.

Beyond my work on the School Committee,  I have held leadership roles in Belmont Girl Scouts, Parents of Music Students (POMS), and with parent-teacher organizations at both Burbank and Chenery. I am most proud of my work as the head of the Belmont Girl Scouts service unit for eight years and as a troop leader for more than ten years. Belmont Girl Scouts has grown into a group of more than 300 girls who are learning to “take the lead” in their communities and who inspire me every day. I am very much invested in Belmont and committed to seeing our public school system thrive for these girls and every other student in our community.

Belmont’s fine public schools provided me with the strong foundation I needed to become a first-generation professional. As a School Committee member, I am committed to maintaining our Belmont schools to ensure that every student has the same opportunity to develop and thrive here. Although we have work to do as a community to make this our future, I am committed to putting in the time and energy to make it happen.

I thank you in advance for your continued support of my candidacy. I hope to have your support on April 7th.
